For mayor of ward
Born in Wichita, KS and raised in Tulsa, OK, I graduated from East Central High School in 1975 and immediately entered the United States Air Force as a Fireman. While stationed at my first duty station in Blytheville AFB, AR, I met and married the former Catherine (Cathy) Hardin. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, I began working as a Fireman/EMT for the City of Osceola. While there, I attended night-school in Jonesboro, AR and earned my EMT Advanced (now Paramedic) certificate.
I re-enlisted in the Air Force in 1982 in the Law Enforcement career field and was assigned to McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS; Florennes AB, Beligum; Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA; Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal; and Little Rock AFB, Jacksonville, AR. While stationed at Little Rock AFB, I cross-trained to the Paralegal career field, and, after working in the base’s legal office for several years, I was assigned as the Command Paralegal Manger for Headquarter, US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. I retired as a Master Sergeant in 2000 after 22 years of service.
After retirement from the Air Force, I began working as the Client Relations Manager and Paralegal for Cauley, Geller, Bowman & Coats Law Firm in Little Rock. While there, I helped design and implement a filing system that is still in use today at several law firms. In 2003, I joined Emerson Poynter Law Firm and was their Director of Administration and Senior Paralegal until the firm dissolved in 2015.
Cathy and I moved to Ward in 1991. I began volunteering for the Ward Volunteer Fire Department shortly after moving here. During my service there, I revamped the forms used to report the department’s responses, so they would line-up with the state’s reporting system. These forms are still in use today. In 2000, I volunteered to be a member of the city’s Planning Commission and served until elected to the City Council in 2002 where I served until December 2015. In late 2015 I was hired as the city's Deputy Operations Director and continue to serve in that position.
I was awarded two Associate Degrees while in the Air Force and, in 2006, earned my Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from John Brown University. In May of this year, I will graduate as a Certified Arkansas Government Manager and Certified National Public Manager from the Arkansas Public Administration Consortium.
Cathy and I have been married for 40 years and have three grown children (Crystal, Nathan, and Chelsea). Each graduated from Arkansas State University – Jonesboro. They have graced us with four (so far) grandchildren: Troy, Sadie, Calab, and Samantha.
